Grandaddy make songs about technology, isolation, and burnout sound oddly beautiful. “Now It’s On,” “El Caminos in the West,” and “The Group Who Couldn’t Say” combine fuzzy electronics with worn-out human feeling. The album feels both futuristic and deeply tired.

    Listening Log

    Niko Stratis

I first heard Grandaddy in an A&B sound in Edmonton, Alberta on a lonely Saturday morning. The burnout working the counter at the CD shop in the upstairs section of the store, just past the car stereos and the discount vacuum cleaners, was blasting Sumday and staring into a cup of coffee that seemed like it had been cold for quite some time. I asked him what he was playing and his eyes lit like headlights on a dark highway and he said "you gotta hear Grandaddy, it'll change your life", and then sold me all their albums at a friends and family discount. 10/10 record, no skips, i've listened to it every week since i first bought it.
