"Fun fact, this was not my intended pick, but Alex let me change it up since this was the Last Album of the Year and I thought I'd pick something more interesting. I wanted something that was a little bit of everything we loved and a little bit of what we find challenging and I think TMV fit the bill.
The explanation in my boot explains why I find the album at times completely inscrutable despite the years I've listened to it (the nonsense lyrics don't help). But it's also why I love it. I don't think there's anything quite like Frances even in TMV's discography. It's a dense work, prog in every sense, that I still get something new out of on each listen. You even get one of the best singles ever put out with The Widow (bolted into the album with ambient room to breathe). Cygnus... and L'via L'Viaquez round things out by giving you kind of mini-Cassandra's with multiple movements, hooks, and bits where they just space out. It's a meticulously crafted album that I think is worth the exploration despite having the accessibility of a Borg cube" - Steve
