Rotate!
A colleague mentioned her love of Emma Ruth Rundle to me when we were talking about shoegaze. I was expecting something different when I listened to this album, but I was by no means disappointed.
Rundle has a dark aesthetic which, at least on this album, pairs well with the primal post-rock rhythms. "Darkhorse" is a particular favorite, its shifting, moody instrumentation serve vehicle for Rundle's powerful and plaintive vocals.
Anytime I see an artist that is recommended if you like Russian Circles and Mazzy Star, it's safe to say I'm intrigued.

20 Albums That Influenced Me
This is the second in my list's (un)holy trilogy of albums from 3 amazing women. ERR's solo music isn't metal (it's mostly really sad), but ERR herself is VERY metal adjacent. My partner and I starting listening to her solely because she had picked a YOB album for her "What's In My Bag" Amoeba video (which we saw a year after this album came out) and she's been blasted in our house ever since.
