Black To The Future

I'm including this for two reasons. (1) Because it just totally kicks butt and (2) because it reminds me of some African music that I've heard over the years. This is hip hop, jazz, african traditional, and pop music all rolled into a crazy mix. It's amazing. Warning: The first track is totally sonically unique from the rest of the album, so don't judge based on Track 1. Get to at least Track 2 or 3 so you can get a sense for how the rest of the album feels.

I've been listening to this for a year or so, but it stays on my rotation. It's fantastic. Get to at least track two before you judge it because track one is an outlier, sonically.

One of my favorite albums of the year is Sons Of Kemet, Black To The Future. Track one is great, but it’s an outlier sonically, so get to at least track 2 before you judge it. It’s ska, jazz, traditional african, hip hop -- all mixed up in a really fresh and appealing package. I’ve never heard anything quite like it.
