The album feels like a summary of everything the band does well: hypnotic jams, delicate ballads, noise experiments, garage-rock workouts, and understated pop songs all existing comfortably together. Ira Kaplan, Georgia Hubley, and James McNew sound completely unconcerned with genre boundaries or trend relevance. The looseness of the record becomes part of its emotional generosity. Not as consistent as their best albums, but "Pass The Hatchet, I Think I'm Goodkind" and "The Story of Yo La Tengo" are among their greatest "long" songs.
