  The album feels emotionally frantic, full of collapsing piano lines, tangled guitars, and Carey Mercer’s astonishingly expressive voice straining against the songs themselves. The arrangements move unpredictably, but there’s an elegance holding the chaos together underneath. Tracks like “Idle Songs” and “Bushels” sound both triumphant and exhausted.
