  Carey Mercer's voice remains one of indie rock's most expressive instruments, capable of sounding ecstatic and desperate at once. Paul's Tomb channels that intensity into some of Frog Eyes' strongest songwriting. The arrangements are dense and dramatic without becoming overwhelming. The album feels constantly on the verge of collapse yet somehow holds together beautifully. A fittingly ambitious statement from a singular band.
