  The genre and style of this album is decidedly not my usual cup of tea. I do not like most power metal, and while there is prog more broadly that I like, I generally avoid it in metal.

  So it was not surprising that, starting off with the first track or two here, I was rolling my eyes and figuring I would fairly quickly be filing it in the "Not for me" category and shutting it off. What was surprising is that, four or five tracks later, though, I was nodding along and really getting into it.

  There are plenty of power/prog flourishes here that remain a bit off-putting to me. However, they are balanced by some pretty serious black metal vocals, and I don't find that they carry on for so long as to be a problem.

  I don't know that this album will still with me, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
