  To be honest, I can't believe I actually like this album. It is mostly power metal of what I would normally say is the worst sort, all about medieval tournaments, elves, and swords. Maybe there are dragons, too—I don't even know. Soaring vocals, majestic choruses… all the stuff I would usually hate. I mean, just look at that album cover. Dreadful!

  And yet.

  I really enjoyed this album. I was so surprised that I thought maybe I had made some sort of mistake, so I went back and listened to it a second time. While that second listen did absolutely nothing to resolve my confusion about why I don't hate Beyond the Reach Of Enchantment, it did confirm that the album is a lot of fun and rocks pretty hard.
