  One of Pollard's most underrated solo albums, Choreographed Man of War showcases his gift for constructing surprisingly cohesive records. The songs are concise and melodic, yet there's a darker undercurrent running through much of the material. Pollard sounds energized by the freedom of working outside the GBV framework. The album's pacing is particularly strong, with one memorable tune following another. It rewards repeated listening more than many of his better-known releases.
