Instead, Pollard turns excess into a virtue, creating a sprawling survey of nearly every side of his songwriting. The album contains power-pop gems, psychedelic detours, acoustic reflections, and miniature experiments. Remarkably, it rarely feels repetitive. It's one of the most ambitious and rewarding solo albums he ever released.
