One of the most fully realized albums of Sprout's career, Moonflower Plastic expands his palette without sacrificing the intimacy that defines his best work. The songs are more ambitious and richly arranged than much of his earlier material, yet they retain a homemade charm. Sprout's melodies drift effortlessly through the album, creating a mood that is both nostalgic and strangely timeless. The record feels less like a collection of songs than a carefully constructed environment. His visual artist's eye is evident in the vivid imagery and attention to detail throughout. It's a beautiful and deeply personal work from one of indie rock's great unsung songwriters.
