Working with longtime collaborator Todd Tobias, Pollard balances concise power-pop hooks with a more expansive and atmospheric approach than he often employed in GBV. Songs like "Maggie Turns to Flies" and "Little Hands" rank among the finest of his solo career, combining emotional resonance with his trademark surreal imagery. The production gives the album a cohesive, almost cinematic quality without sacrificing spontaneity. Unlike some Pollard releases that thrive on fragmentation, this record unfolds with unusual focus and momentum.
