I recently started going back to school for music education, and my instrument of choice is the Trumpet - I played both it and the Tuba (much more of the latter), but it has been years and shaking off the rust has been a very vulnerable ordeal. But I’ve been talking with some coworkers about doing some low-key jazz standards together, and Chet Baker was an artist that one of them immediately referenced. I’ve heard some of his singles before, but never a full album, and man what a delight this one was. I’ve never heard a trumpet so soft and emotive before - it’s stunning, and has given me a more clear target to aim for in my own studies. Expect a looooot more records along these lines here - Miles Davis, Count Basie, local acts, whatever - I will be FEASTING on good trumpet performances.
