Album Dijour

A Self Project

  1. Detroit Emeralds

Another vibe album. You would be mistaken for thinking that these songs weren’t from the Superfly soundtrack, both having come out in 1972. They would have felt right at home in that movie. It’s foot tappin’, groove listening. Solid album throughout

  2. The first 1/3 of this album had me going “disco in ‘84” interesting. I fucked with it. Then I am guessing this album came out around Christmas because completely out place Christian songs popped up for a bit. After those there was a shift in the album that seemed to have finally caught up with a more mid 80s vibe. Dispute some disjointed tracks it was alright. Covering more lat 70s to mid 80s in a singular album. Added flair for some island vibe tracks. I believe the stars of the album is where they leaned into disco.

  3. Colter Wall

Old country vibes. If you aren’t familiar with Colter Wall you are missing out. His voice lends itself to it all. This album in particular from 2023 is very old school; in the sense that you just imagine this album playing on a juke box in a dark dive bar. The lights hanging over the pool tables , the clack of the balls from shots as it echo’s against the dark wood walls. You sit there drinking a beer or few and it is a vibe for fun or deep melancholic reflection. Budweiser or Miller Lite neon signs giving the grime a glow with a pack of Marlboros next to your glass ready to spark one up

  4. The Association

An album very representative of the period in which it was released. This in between nebula straddling beatniks and hippies. I can picture the smoke filled room and the turtlenecks galore in the east village. Standout single of the album is ‘Along Comes Mary’ It’s an alright album for 1966

  5. The voice, the voice, the voice ! Bluesey power and tenderness. Lose Control is definitely the star, but you won’t be disappointed in the deeper cuts. Soul + Blues + dash of electric guitar.

  6. Steely Dan

What can I add that hasn’t already been said. This album fucks hard and takes no prisoners. The bangers on bangers. Probably underrated in its day , but the type of music maintains through the decades. Obviously a strong album from 1972. You can’t help, but dance and move to the album set

  7. 7 year nostalgia, The album as a whole gets pieced off on lots of soundtracks. I do love its electronic breathiness. It’s chill throughout, the sum is greater than its parts. Soundtrack fodder

  8. Charles Bradley

Easy going at times yet soulful throughout. This 2011 debut album by Charles Bradley brings the heart ache. The track ‘The World (Is Going Up in Flames) is probably the most recognized on the album. With that 60’s soul of the electric organ and horn accompaniments on many of the tracks beautifully back up the vocals. The vocals, unsurprisingly, are the star of the album. Probably my favorite track is ‘Stay Away’

  9. Just a solid album overall. Because they are the Eagles plenty of songs on this 1979 album will be familiar , but even the deeper cuts bring some funk. I think it’s a good smoke out album. Topped off by an almost a going to sleep lullaby on the final track. Probably my favorite track is Joe Walsh’s ‘In the City’.
