Favorite Power Pop

Power pop can be hard to pin down. For me, it’s sugar sweet vocals (bonus if there are harmonies), insanely catchy hooks and crunchy rock and roll guitars. Badfinger is generally considered to be the group that kickstarted the genre, so I won’t bore you with the usual Badfinger selections.

Oh, one more thing. IMHO, brilliant power pop is also hard to find across entire albums. I tend to cherry pick individual songs from hundreds of bands. That said, here are a few slabs with mostly stellar, starshiny power pop.

Last thing! The best power pop album of all time isn’t on this list because it’s not available on Spotify (don’t know if it’s on the others). Let me know if you’d like to know!

  1. Paul Collins, The Beat

  2. The Sugar Stems

  3. The Shazam

  4. Raspberries

  5. Teenage Fanclub

  6. Cotton Mather
