2026

Albums that I've been listening top-to-bottom, often on repeat this year, in reverse-chronological order.

  1. Primal Scream

A band talking politics probably 30 years ahead of their time, or we're 30 years late to the game.

  2. The Last Dinner Party

  3. Depeche Mode

    Feels like watching a film.

  4. System Of A Down

While I grew up dodging tracks, seeking out the singles. The whole thing reads so well end-to-end now.

  5. St. Vincent

This was probably the only album of hers that took me a while to appreciate in depth. I always thought it was good, but this year there's a bit more of a grip, telling the tracks apart, following the thread.

  6. Little Simz

  7. Queens of the Stone Age

That fingered bass in Paper Machete though.

  8. BADBADNOTGOOD, Ghostface Killah

Such a quick record at 33 minutes, and it wastes absolutely no time getting into the action. The instrumentals do a great job of punctuating the rap, even having moments which could end the album. But it keeps going.

Make sure it's halal / no pork on the fork

    ...gets me everytime.

On loop, the close and open merge seamlessly as a reset palate cleanser.

  9. Philip Glass, Kronos Quartet

From a movie that I finally watched after years on my list. Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas and Philip Glass on the bill? A film about a reactionary, that the reactionaries don't like? Sign me up.

  10. A staple since the pandemic, where it was an almost daily wind-down.
