Seven Songs for the Week #120 - 23rd July 25

Jesse Welles
Where are the anti-war songs in 2025? Heard this for the first time this week and it hits all the points that need to be said. Imagine if Ed Sheeran had written this, imagine if he even covered it. This type of thing used to be part of the conversation.

The feel of it is something.

I mean, now more than ever for Paul Simon's American Tune. It works so much better as an S&G track - I wish they'd done a proper studio version at some point.
-
Alison Krauss
Which version to go for? This one, I think.
-
Bryan Ferry
Given the time, I will explain the how's and why's of Bryin Ferry's These Foolish Things album being infinitely superior to Bowie's Pin Ups.

Are you getting the theme yet? Still reeling from having seen Sparks live last week. Not an overtly political band necessarily, but you know where they stand. Last week they performed Please Don't **** Up My World. Back in 2005, it was this song. As I recall, it first appeared as a track on a free magazine CD with the same chorus but different lyrics and melody in the verses. When the album came out, the verses were now The Star-Spangled Banner, turning the song on its head.

Black Sabbath
Given the theme and the events of this week, what else could it be?
