Seven Songs for the Week #136 - 12th Nov 25

  1. Without sounding all Patrick Bateman about it, the construction and sound of TIOA is quite a lesson in economy and punch. A perfect opening song. There are one or two curiosities - the Chinese-sounding synth line, the hook that doesn't appear until three minutes it, and it has more sections than you remember. Still though, good stuff.

  2. Janelle Monáe, Big Boi

I remember hearing this for the first time on the radio back in 2010 while I was travelling to Cork and looking for a job I didn't get. This week I heard it on RTE Radio One - Ireland's older persons station, full of talk and non-threatening music. Is this now an oldie? Still slaps.

  3. Prince

Had a Prince playlist on for a car journey this week, I'm trying to make the case to an offspring about how good he is/was.

  4. Charli xcx, John Cale

New out this week. I mean, it's really great, with Tusk levels of disorientating the audience. Maybe this will be the collab to bring boomers and Gen Z together. First track from a Charli soundtrack for the 2026 redux of Wuthering Heights - a good idea to dissipate the pressure of a BRAT follow up.

  5. Radiohead returned last week with four gigs in Madrid. Different setlists each night with songs appearing and disappearing. I made a playlist of excellent songs they did not play. Like this one.

  6. Tanita Tikaram

The GLW went to see TT in concert on Monday, so her music has been played a bit this week. Still stands up.

  7. The Blue Nile

    Mmmmmmm.
