Seven Songs for the Week #157 - 8th Apr 26
-
U2
I am currently in Berlin, which is always a treat. And while U2 have dropped another surprise half dozen songs this week, I feel I have to have Zoo Station here. Possibly the best album opener ever - is there something wrong with my speaker… then it all comes together. It couldn’t be anywhere else on the album.
-
Gorillaz
Went to see Gorillaz in Dublin last week. One of the best things I’ve seen. Great visuals, unsurprisingly, but relentlessly good songs. Like this one.
-
Barney Kessel, Gloria Wood
Played on the PA as Gorillaz left the stage.
-
Peter Gabriel
This months new Petey G track. He describes it as the most “pop” thing on the upcoming o\i record. The keyboard riff is certainly irresistible. This is the third anniversary of the seven song playlist, which opened with PG back then.
-
Weezer
More new, from Weezer, from an as yet to be titled LP. Not written by Rivers but by Pat, the drummer. Cool.
-
David Bowie
I believe “Heroes” is the third best of the three “Berlin” albums and Neuköln might be the least good track on the album. But since that’s the part of Berlin I’m staying in this week, here it is.
-
XTC
Played Apple Venus Volume One this week, and it really is “a fine album”. Maybe it would have been more seasonal to have Easter Theatre on here, but you know, I don’t make the rules.
