Seven Songs for the Week #162

  1. Robert Fripp, Brian Eno

This playlist was due to open with Black Hole Sun by The Moog Cookbook until I realised at the last minute it had been on a playlist exactly one year ago. Here's the note I had written anyway:
I don't know why my mind wandered to The Moog Cookbook this week, but it did. This album caused much joy 30 years ago when it came out in a world that was still not fully online. TMC had been spotted on MTV and a pal bought the album. I've only just discovered that one of them, Uli Nomi, is actually Brian Kehew who wrote one of the defining books about the Beatles, Recording The Beatles. Indeed I had seen him give a talk in Abbey Road in 2019 and if I'd known he was 50% of The Moog Cookbook I'd have been starstruck.

  2. Boards of Canada

    New BoC track.

  3. Charli xcx

New Charli track. Back in February when her Wuthering Heights soundtrack was coming out, she spoke of wanting to do a rock record. I wasn't expecting to hear something so soon. On first listen I assumed something had gone wrong at the end. It's great.

  4. The new Paul & Ringo song (see below) reminded me of this Rutles classic.

  5. Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr

I'm slightly unsure about all the nostalgia present in Paul's new music. Maybe I'll be cool with the whole album, but it's a bit needy.

  6. Radhika

This came up on a random playlist. Is the Strawberry Switchblade song? It took me a bit to realise it was. Nice version.

  7. Brian Eno

Went to see the comedian John Kearns last week. Wasn't expecting this piece of music to feature, but it did!
