Seven Songs for the Week #168 - 24th June 26

Sometimes you can focus in on a song and I've listened to Ignoreland a lot in the past week. Often dismissed as the low point on Automatic For The People, a review of the lyrics shows that they are as timely as ever.

Heard this on The Current.

Got to the end of Season Three of Breaking Bad which featured this song. I needed to Shazam it because I couldn't place it. Now, I have owned Ill Communication for 30+years but it is a failure of the CD era that one would just play the tracks you liked/knew, and a track like this, tucked in towards the end of the album, would get overlooked. Have I ever even listened to every track of the album? Will dig it out and go through it again.

I was reminded of this song this week when I met a Lucas. The video, directed by Michel Gondry, was nailed to MTV Europe for a few weeks when it came out originally. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sY5zaDZq0sc

Heard this playing while out and about this week along with other classics of the era like The Presidents Of The United States of America. The backstory that inspired the song is quite sad: An elderly couple set off on a drive and went missing for a fortnight until their car was found at the bottom of a ravine. Still though, that change into the chorus slaps.

Teenager listened to this album for the first time this week and became an instant fan. Never gets old.

Listened to Tommy straight through in 5.1 Surround this past week. Sounded good. Still has some bizarre production quirks.
