Seven Songs for the Week #54 - 17th Apr 24

  1. McAlmont & Butler

Broke out this album this week and it really is a magical moment in time. There has been some McA&B activity since this album, but not much.

  2. Mirage, the most frowned upon of the 5 FMac albums from the Rumours 5. For other bands it would be a high watermark. Seen as a return to Rumours-era songcraft, you can dip into the extra tracks on the box set and make a Tusk2.

  3. Pop
    Tempesst

Somebody mentioned this online, wondering what the outro music reminded them of. What does it remind you of?

  4. Frank Black

I had several headaches this week. This is the best song about headaches.

  5. Dean Jones, Donna McKechnie, Stephen Sondheim, Harold Hastings

Don't know much about Sondheim, he got mentioned very briefly on Comedy Bang Bang this week, so I went on a bit of a streaming shuffle. This sounds cool, the Atmos mix is nice.

  6. Sade are fascinating, because Sade are a band, led by Sade the woman. 14 years since their last album, they've managed a colossal 6 records in total since their debut 40 years ago. four of those records were in the first decade. They all seem very wealthy, slowly working on album seven, yet Sade (the woman, and the band) never get the same beard-stroking appreciation of, say, Kate Bush.

  7. I was streaming this live gig last week and the mix is very ramshackle (in a good way). For this version of Star 69 Stipe is LOUD.
