Seven Songs for the Week #69 - 31st July 24

Kaleidoscope
A 1969 bit of rock that sounds exactly like the kind of thing you'd hear from a band in 1969 called Kaleidoscope. This is here because of a sample used later on the Beyoncé track.
-
Cerrone
Did you notice the Olympics starting up this week? The opening ceremony got better as the skies got darker. The subsequent fake outrage from certain parts of the world seemed to miss the point completely. The peak might have been the appearance of Celine Dion, but I was very happy at a front and centre lights routine to the track Supernature. Between this, and the YMO Behind The Mask track a few weeks back, so much future music sounds like it starts here. And it's possibly the best album cover too.

Childish Gambino
I've had a brief listen to the CG album, but haven't become deeply involved, however the video for this track is truly eye-popping.

The only reason to include this is that I'm on it, in the audience, somewhere...I went to both Dublin nights of the ZooTV tour in August 1993 - one night seated, one night standing.
Why is this is being released now? Who knows?
Why is it a five song EP, and not a full album? Haven't a clue.
Wouldn't a full ZooTV package of remastered live shows on CD and Bluray and the tv specials be a nice thing? Yes, but the U2 archive releases have been... wanting. Maybe this is a trailer for something like this, but I doubt it. They won’t be told (apparently a 20th anniversary …Atomic Bomb reissue will be in the shops in time for Christmas. I bet it won’t have Native Son on it.) -
Pixies
Pixies. Still a thing. New single.
-
Chappell Roan
Chappell Roan, she's so hot right now. This is a catchy bop.
-
Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar
Remember Kaleidoscope? Well that track is sampled here. This song is the soundtrack of the first official Kamala Harris presidential campaign ad. If I could vote for a song, it would be this one.
