Seven Songs for the Week #91
-
Grace Jones
Picked up a copy of Island Life on CD a few weeks ago. It opens with this, and it's a lovely way to open anything.
-
Allen Toussaint
Watched the movie Hit Man this week. It was...fine. It would have worked better as a 1990s Coen Brothers lark.
-
David Bowie
For Christmas I got myself the Bonzo Dog boxset and the 2021 Brilliant Adventure box from Bowie covering 1992-2001. I like 1990s Bowie a lot. Here's most people's least favourite track, probably.
-
Mongo Santamaria
This album popped up on my Mastodon. I had never heard of Mongo before. Fun stuff.
-
The Freehold
I learned this week that this is the first Phil Collins vocal on record. It's wild that it only seems to exists as a wobbly needle drop. It's deffo Phil though.
-
Frabjoy & Runcible Spoon
In other "before they were famous" news, Here's 1960s Godley & Creme.
-
Elton John, George Michael
For some reason, got talking to some friends this week about this little-known Elton track with George Michael. The follow up to the Nikita single, it's features the two men listing all their favourite ladies. In 2025 that might seem amusing, but in 1986 it seemed rather legitimate. The video is worth checking out because it's obviously very very expensive and features Kiki Dee getting a custard pie in the face.
