Seven Songs for the Week #94 - 22nd Jan 24

XTC
Look, I added this to give some symmetry to the song that closes the list. Why the question mark though?

neil young and the chrome hearts, Neil Young
Sometimes Neil gets it right, and sometimes he doesn't, but I'm always curious to see what he's up to. This sounds great, sub-three minutes, crunchycrunchcrunch, a new band sounding like Crazy Horse but a little bit better, and here we are. There's already a Neil album coming out next month, albeit an archive one, so probably when that's out of the way we'll know more about the next "proper" album... and the European gigs.

Sydney Lucas, Beth Malone, Jeanine Tesori, Lisa Kron
I can't recall how this ended up on the playlist. I think it was mentioned on a podcast and I bookmarked it for later. The musical thing that happens when she sings "keys" is quite beguiling - is it a key change or a modulation or what? I don't have the skills to know.

The Rapture
So I was reading a thing about 20 years since the release of the LCD Soundsystem debut album, and this track got a mention as it was a James Murphy mix. It had somehow passed me by, but here it is if you like that sort of thing.

LCD Soundsystem
Which led me to ask the question "whither new music from LCD Soundsystem?" There have been two new songs in recent years: this one and another call X-Ray Eyes from 2024. A new album is being put together. It's been 7.5 years since American Dream, which was the gap between This Is Happening and American Dream - and that was a hiatus!
-
David Bowie, James Murphy
It's a pity we never got a full tilt Bowie-Murphy/LCDSs collaboration. The bits we did get, this and some appearances from Murphy on Blackstar, showed that there were places to go, but we ran out of time.
