june listens
albums that I'm listening to this month and my thoughts on them. I'll also give each album a rating of 1-10 just for fun :)

Flwr Chyld
last album for the month! to be honest i kinda zoned out while listening to each song. it’s very relaxing, kinda ideal for background music for studying or walking around a nature park. it kinda gives that “zen” feeling from start to finish.
rating: 8/10 -
Naomi Scott
i wish that F.I.G was longer! Naomi had r&b and pop fused together into a cohesive, dreamy vibe on each song. if I could recommend an album for sunset watching on the beach with the smell of coconut, sunscreen, and ocean water in the air, it would be this one.
rating: 9.5/10 -
Drake
Drake was really in his bag from the early 2010s-2017. it’s a shame that he isn’t hungry anymore. aside from Take Care, this is one of his strongest albums to date in his discography. the beats were great, the lyrics were generally good, and it aged well.
rating: 9.5/10 -
Kali Uchis
each song is an absolute hit. the album has the familiar alternative r&b vibe in each track that Kali is known for, but also incorporates dream pop and Spanish influences. I think if fairies were real, they would braid their hair and fly around with this album playing in the background.
rating: 11/10 -
Jay Montana
i’m trying to increase how many artists I listen to. Jay Montana was one that I discovered through a feature from another rapper named FattMack. It’s honestly a typical rap album. It has southern roots to it, which is cool to hear. But there isn’t much special to it. The album is nice to turn up to or pre-game.
rating: 7/10 -
this may be an unpopular opinion, but i wasn’t in love with this album compared to others in Mitski’s discography. maybe it’s because i now enjoy feel-good music, or maybe i preferred the indie/alternative sounds she leaned into from 2012-2016ish. i’ll revisit this album at some point.
rating: 7/10 -
Elujay
each song combines elements of r&b, alternative, reggae, and rock like a three-tiered cake. if you’re into artists like Brent Faiyaz, you’ll definitely enjoy Elujay’s discography. the album reminds me of Brent’s musical style but with distinctive twists that brings uniqueness to the r&b space.
rating: 9/10 -
Ivy
very early 2000s tv sitcom coded (think of shows such as Dawson’s Creek). it has an intimate, nostalgic vibe to it. Like a group of friends growing up in a small town and figuring out life together. kinda the perfect album to create scenarios in your head.
edit: re-listened after getting some sleep and it’s actually peak daydreaming music.
rating: 9/10 -
Jordan Ward
i’ve been constantly listening to this album ever since it dropped. The production has classic r&b components, but mixes in pop sounds which are so fun to listen to. It quirky and polished at the same time oddly enough.
rating: 10/10 -
Chenayder
if you’re into bedroom pop/ indie pop with hints of r&b, then you’ll definitely enjoy the songs on this album. it’s like a quirky art student painting something otherworldly. It’s dreamy, and similar to floating in a grassland that’s never ending.
rating: 9/10 -
William Bell
another 60s album that popped up on my Apple Music home page. Each song is the epitome of yearning for your true love. This album also has the classic vibes from the 60s, and mixes in upbeat tracks and a few ballads in it. I’m starting to realize that i do prefer the disco era that was prominent in the 70s-80s (it’s just a great way to start the day with how vibrant the genre is). Overall, it was an enjoyable listen.
rating: 8/10 -
Vince Staples
the use of live instrumentals adds a interesting layer to “Cry Baby”. i haven’t listened to much of Vince Staples prior to this album. there is some great songs that i will definitely re-listen to(my favorites are The Big Bad Wolf, Go! Go! Gorilla, and TV Guide). The lyrics were pretty good, but felt obvious. the sounds on the album also weren’t as wacky as other beats Vince rapped over.
rating: 7.5/10 -
India Shawn
this ep was great to listen to. the vibes this gives off is driving in the city while the sun is going down with the windows down and taking in the summer breeze. It’s smooth, groovy, and overall a nice r&b album to listen to during a Sunday reset.
rating: 9.5/10 -
Michael Jackson
the critics had no taste when this first came out. Micheal went the r&b route on this album and there’s a reason why it’s gaining traction again in 2026. If an album could be used to describe the word timeless, it would be this one.
rating: 1000/10 -
Percy Sledge
i want to expand my music taste and listen to albums from different time periods. When a man loves a woman has elements of rock, r&b, and the classic sounds from the 60s. It has strong vocals from Percy and enjoyable background vocals as well. rock isn’t my favorite genre, but this was still a great album.
rating: 9/10 -
The Internet
I'd argue that this is album will be a studied classic in about 5-10 years. the internet's discography is interesting, experimental, and mixes alternative and r&b so effortlessly well. Syd's vocals are lush and airy.
rating: 100/10 -
threetwenty
I discovered threetwenty last month and the their music is r&b perfection. very underrated and deserves so much more attention. I recommend listening to their discography.
rating: 10/10 -
Bryson Tiller
it’s a decent song, but it feels like something Bryson has released before. I hope he experiments with his sound more if he releases something else.
rating: 7.5/10 -
Sparklmami
if you like Remi wolf, Kali Uchis, or still woozy, this album is right up your alley! each song has a relaxing, almost drowsy vibes to them while also mixing in wacky instrumentals and hypnotizing vocal effects.
