2023 Listen Log

Trying to be more intentional of what I listen to this year. Not a professional music critic (if that's not obvious).

  1. Doja Cat

    Doja can rap.

  2. Young Nudy

Heard about this from a podcast, and I've been listening to it on loop. I'm surprised by how much I'm enjoying this album.

    [Oct 3] Still loving it!

  3. Somehow missed this album from 2021. Easy album to listen to while working.

  4. Travis Scott

Our high schooler is a big fan of Travis Scott and I was curious. Pretty good album, I thought.

Standout tracks: MY EYES, FE!N, LOST FOREVER. (Not sure why the track names are in all caps.)

  5. Kenny Beats

Saw Kenny Beats' Tiny Desk performance last night and now I'm listening to this album on loop.

Hold My Head is my favorite track on it so far.

  6. Vijay Iyer Trio

[Feb 15] Good jazz, but I'm just not that into it. :/

  7. Adrianne Lenker and Buck Meek

[Feb 13] I'd like to go through all the album's I've added to my Apple Music library, most of which I haven't listened to for years (partly because Apple Music's UI doesn't make it fun / easy to go through albums).

Adrianne Lenker is 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼. This is a beautiful album.

  8. Kornél Kovács

[Feb 10] I don't usually listen to electric music but I like this! Nice find on Album Whale.

  9. Cafuné

[January] My favorite find on Album Whale so far (original list).

Favorite tracks: Tek It (the acoustic version is real nice, too), Everyone Knows, High, Want Me Out.

  10. SOS
    SZA

[January] It's hard not to compare this album with Ctrl, which is a masterpiece and one of my favorite albums. SOS is still a fun pop album and I've listened to it a lot.

I'm confused by some of the song choices on this album, such as F2F, which sounds like something written for Avril Lavigne. But there are some great songs––my favorites are Kill Bill (disturbing lyrics over a sugar pop tune) and Ghost in the Machine. That last ODB track is nice, too.

  11. DJ Preservation

Via Dad Bod Rap Pod episode #248, David Ma's favorite hip-hop instrumental album of the year. I love it.

  12. Via Dad Bod Rap Pod episode #248, which I've been going through slowly (trying out every album they mentioned) . Both Nate & David recommended this album as their Instrumental Album of 2022 (along with DJ Preservation's 1974), and it sure is damn good.
