2022-12-12 - Stuff I listened to this week
-
Shintaro Sakamoto
Weirdo jazz-inflected pop from Japan. I kinda like it.
-
Nightlands
I really like their 2017 release I Can Feel the Night Around Me. This one… not so much. Not terrible—just meh.
-
Trentemøller
I went back to re-listen to this one after checking out his 2022 release earlier in the day. It's still good.
-
Pulse Emitter
This album reminds of me Amorphous Androgynous/Lifeforms-era Future Sound of London with its synth washes and bubbles, but also verges into some darker territory. Recommend.
-
Trentemøller
I don't think I've listened to any of his stuff since The Last Resort, which I really liked. This is good, although he has progressed away from the more minimalist techno/chill-out stuff that he used to do.
-
The Range
-
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes
I love this band. Everything they do is good. I listen to their albums over and over and never get tired of them even though they're all covers of songs I've heard a billion times.
-
Burial
I feel like this guy is getting more abstract and ambient with every release he puts out. That's fine by me—I like it! This one reminds me of the Blade Runner 2049 soundtrack with some analog hiss and crackle laid over the top.
-
Daphni
-
Daft Punk
Boy, people really like this soundtrack. I find it to be… okay? It fades into the background well enough if I'm working on something, but there is plenty of stuff that works better for that sort of thing for me.
-
Oren Ambarchi
-
Cluster, Brian Eno
I never even knew this existed (despite having listened to and enjoyed a bunch of their individual stuff) until it turned up in my recommendations. It feel like a slightly more complex take on Eno's Music For Airports-era stuff. I like it.
-
Fleet Foxes
I haven't listened to this album in a long time. It still holds up. It's one I tend to listen to only in the winter and especially around the holidays, even though it is not specifically related to either. The mood seems to fit, though.
-
Smoke Fairies
These two remind me a bit of School Of Seven Bells, but playing bluesy, vaguely ominous rock. Recommend, preferably for late at night.
