2025 - Week 16: Rob's Listening Log #3
The latest albums I'm listening to! Week of April 14th through April 20th
-
alt-J
I remember vividly when the album came out, the debut from the band. They were hailed as the next Radiohead. That didn't quite turn out but their effort here is still impeccable.
-
Roy Buchanan
The best guitarist no one knows about. Thank you, Marty Scorsese, for introducing him to me via the end of The Departed.
-
Junior Wells
Chicago blues doesn't get better. Particularly enjoy the song for Mayor Daley.
-
John Coltrane Quartet
Listened to this twice in a morning. Nothing more chill / better than this easy going Coltrane.
-
Queens Of The Stone Age
Once the QOTSA pop, the fun don't stop.
-
Queens of the Stone Age
The first from one of the best to ever do it. There's a reason Queens of the Stone Age is one of my favorite bands ever. It all starts here.
-
Really been leaning into Marc Bolan more lately and I couldn't be happier.
-
The Rolling Stones
Perhaps one of my favorite Stones albums. Really underrated, although I can say I don't love the song "Star Star" at the end. The one weak spot on an otherwise incredible album post-Exile on Main St. excess.
-
Cold War Kids
Aside from the last song "Baby Boy", I think this is the best stuff Cold War Kids have ever done. The first band I ever really got into. First concert I ever saw!
-
Nirvana
An all-time classic. Can't be beat. Perhaps the last true rock band?
-
BRONCHO
Can't wait to see these guys in Chicago soon!
-
Shared with me by a coworker! Really amazing stuff.
-
Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever
There is possibly no better debut EP. Pitch perfect tunes from front to back from the Aussies.
-
Hailu Mergia, Dahlak Band
Is there anything better than 70s Ethiopian synth?
