Vinyl Collection Exploration

Going through all of my vinyl, listening, deciding what's a gem and what's a Goodwill donation.

List updated as I listen through the collection. Most have already been listened to, of course, so this list indicates listening from November 2024 to present.

Organized alphabetically by artist name.

  1. Fabulous. Some of the best ABC. A theatrical, glitter-infused pop masterpiece. Put on your bedazzled smoking jacked, get a fruity cocktail, and let this sucker run.

  2. Courtney Barnett

"Take your broken heart, turn it into art." A definitive lesbian breakup album, a definitive breakup album, period. Clear red vinyl. Music dips into that deep sadness and turns it into a nostalgic, gentle, then suddenly angry sound. Yet it concludes like a well-deserved hug.

  3. Death Cab for Cutie

20th anniversary edition clear vinyl. My favorite Death Cab for Cutie album. "Gridlocked Caravans" is an excellent addition to the A side, leaving you feeling like you're floating through a quiet misery. An American album that takes you on a journey of vignettes through the country.

  4. The Fixx

Creepy synthpop goodness. "Saved by Zero" is the highlight, but the entire record has a running paranoia that's excellent.

  5. While "Reach the Beach" has more memorable singles, "Shuttered Room" is my favorite front-to-back pick from The Fixx.

  6. Go West

Mostly middle of the road 80s synthpop—enjoyable, dance-able, but not particular memorable. Have been pleasantly surprised at the ending track, "Missing Persons," though for it's quiet haunting.

  7. Ginger Root

Amazing sound. Cloud-detailed bright blue vinyl. Ginger Root is the champ. Somehow sounds even better every listen through.

  8. seanan jones

I often think of the Revillos/Rezillos as the scottish version of the B52s. A fun, campy album, although less punk than the earlier Rezillo tracks.

  9. Steely Dan
