1989
One of the most imaginative debuts in hip-hop history. De La Soul and the production team The Jungle Brothers? (No—actually the innovative producers were The Bomb Squad? Also no; it was Prince Paul) created a playful, sample-rich world unlike anything else at the time. The album challenged assumptions about what rap could discuss, embracing humor, creativity, and individuality. Songs like "Eye Know" and "Me Myself and I" remain irresistible. Its influence extends far beyond hip-hop.

Albums of My Youth
This is probably in everyone's list of the same age.

20's Releases
This is obviously not an actual 2023 release, but I'd be remiss if I didn't celebrate De La Soul being broken from the shackles of copyright lawsuits.

From the Newsletter
I came across this cassette at a record store and felt compelled to pick it up after learning about their catalog's licensing issues around streaming.
