The Lioness feels suspended between intimacy and emotional collapse, with Jason Molina stripping his songwriting down to raw nerve endings. The arrangements are sparse but incredibly tense — quiet guitars, slow rhythms, and long stretches of space that make every lyric land harder. Molina sings as though he’s trying to hold himself together, especially on “Coxcomb Red” and “Tigress,” where desire and loneliness become almost indistinguishable from one another. Few records capture isolation with this much physical weight and emotional precision.
