  • Root Genre: Rock
  • Primary Branch: Art Rock / Alternative Singer-Songwriter
  • Secondary Influences: Art Pop, Neo-Soul, Atmospheric Electronic, Avant-Garde, Psychedelic Folk
  • Textural Identity: Nocturnal, theatrical and fluid — piano/keys, electric guitar, bass, drums and expressive vocals moving between intimate singer-songwriter passages and denser, more atmospheric ensemble sections
  • Energy Axis: Low → Medium-High (often slow-burning and cinematic, but the live setting allows the band to swell into much more forceful peaks)

  Melentini is a difficult artist to place neatly, which is exactly why I’d use Rock → Art Rock / Alternative Singer-Songwriter as the center of gravity. Veego describes her style as combining avant-garde, neo-soul and atmospheric electronic pop, while Apple categorizes this particular live album broadly as Alternative. :chatgpt-content-reference{index=“0”}

  The album collects eight performances with the Running Blue Orchestra, including “Nightkisser,” “Almond Tree,” “Yellow Roses,” “Satellites” and the almost ten-minute “Asana / Metamorphosis.” :chatgpt-content-reference{index=“1”} In this setting the “orchestra” aspect matters: the songs are given much more room than conventional studio pop, sometimes expanding into long atmospheric passages where the band’s dynamic interplay becomes as important as the vocal melody.

  Small review: This feels like the right format for Melentini’s music. The songs have recognizable singer-songwriter cores, but they become stranger and more immersive when stretched out live. “Satellites” and especially “Asana / Metamorphosis” move furthest from ordinary song form, allowing repetition and atmosphere to accumulate until the music starts to resemble psychedelic art rock or experimental chamber pop. Meanwhile, “Yellow Roses” shows the softer, more soulful side of her writing. The record’s appeal is precisely that it never settles comfortably into indie rock, electronic pop or neo-soul; it inhabits the blurred territory between them. :chatgpt-content-reference{index=“2”}

  Collection shorthand: Rock → Art Rock / Alternative Singer-Songwriter.
