personal favorite albums
albums that i think are nearly perfect
-
Nirvana
the most intense and angsty grunge album i've ever heard. the drumming and gutteral screaming throughout this album is insane
-
Tyler, The Creator
great storytelling, love the parallels between this and bastard's alter ego, especially considering both ace and wolf haley are used in goblin. the features are great and i love the balance between wolf haley's story and tyler's personal problems in this one. i believe this album is when he truly "grew up"
-
Enjoy
an absolute balls-to-the-walls insane indie rock album, probably my favorite indie rock album out of what i've listened to. i will say this album has some really high highs and some catastrophically low lows
-
Alice In Chains
while lots of grunge and punk albums definitely lament something wrong going on within the writer's lives, unlike other albums, this album just feels like life is kicking your ass and you're just stuck there, hopeless. it's a really unique grunge album and in my opinion aic's best
-
my bloody valentine
the guitar tones in this are insane when paired with the keyboards in this album. every time i sit down and listen to this album i cry at least once. this not only defined general shoegaze music but is also just such a great album on its' own
-
MF DOOM
DOOM's best imo. he uses the goofy cartoon samples to his best, and while the flow of his lines are probably the worst in this album, everything else is masterful and makes this album iconic
-
The Garden
THIS ALBUM KICKS ASS. the garden always uses fletcher's drums and wyatt's bass to their absolute limit and it creates the most catastrophic punk album i've ever heard. love it
-
Hedgehog
OH MY GOD THIS ALBUM. what a great rock album. kind of upsets me because as far as i know hedgehog is a really obscure band
-
Outkast
once again a great rap/r&b album. love how you can see both member's strong and weak points that goes into outkast's music. the love below was the better one imo
-
Tyler, The Creator
objectively tyler's best, i find the more r&b and pop focused music to be a surprising change to tyler's music that he actually handles super well. the story is superb and probably his best yet
-
No Doubt
a great fusion of rock and ska, one of the best albums of the 90s. not much to say honestly. some songs lean heavier to one genre or the other, and a couple of them also mix in electronic music
-
Mild High Club
WHAT A GOOD DEBUT FOR THIS BAND. man they hit it out of the park on almost every song. by far my favorite mild high club album
-
Late of the Pier
this album mixes punk and electronic music in such a masterful way and the final result is honestly upsetting how good it is considering it's their only album. what a good one though
-
Skee-Lo
this album honestly feels like a heart-to-heart with skee-lo, as he grows up and matures from trying to act tough to learning what he wants out of life and going out of his way to achieve it. he's not happy because he's "made it" in the traditional sense, but moreso because he's fulfilled all of his dreams in some way or another
-
GEZEBELLE GABURGABLY
i've never seen an album so tastelessly offensive yet also so understanding and relatable. not really much else to say, to be honest even for an experimental rock album this album's a bit hard to describe
-
Primus
PRIMUS HATERS DNI
-
Death Grips
liking this album probably makes me a fatherless little snob, but man this is such a good experimental rap album
-
glass beach
this is a great amateur self-released indie rock album, some songs drag on but lots of this album is just packed with energy, you could tell the band had fun with this
-
Kanye West
this is PEAK kanye, no argument. this was his best album by far and it nearly redefined the entire genre
-
Two Door Cinema Club
this is such generic pop music, but goddamn i like it and you should too
-
JPEGMAFIA
of course peggy is the one who made this, who else could have guessed. such a great fusion of so many genres, a landmark in experimental rap
-
MGMT
a great electronic pop album. i don't think i've ever met anyone that doesn't actively like this album
-
Nirvana
the landmark album that solidified grunge and made it popular to the masses, there's something in this album for everyone. i always liked bleach better but this one's still great
-
bo en
a surprisingly good pop album with heavy themes and even heavier japanese influences
-
a really odd experimental punk album created by the shears twins and their friend, who all eventually became enjoy, puzzle, and rexx. this is such a bizarre album and i love it so much
-
ミラクルミュージカル
an album made by former tally hall members tied together by a story about a sailor falling in love and going insane throughout the album. the story ties together really well with the music, i definitely recommend just sitting down and listening to this in one sitting
