30 years old in 2024

Albums from 1994 that rocked 21-year old Frank

  1. Pearl Jam

After Ten and Vs, this album really had the band turn into new directions.

  2. If not the best Unplugged album of all times. A stellar performance I remember seeing on MTV for the first time. With a lot of foreboding, what would happen in april of 1994....

  3. Songs like Limo Wreck, 4th of July, Fell on Black Days... so much more important than the famous Black Hole Sun. This album still stands out.

  4. Alice In Chains

A shorter EP, like SAP shows a different side of this great band. Well worth the listen if you want to learn more on Alice in Chains.

  5. Beastie Boys

Eclectic as always with the Beasties. Songs like Sabotage are classic, Get it Together with Q-tip has some of the greatest lines. Heart Attack Man shows their roots.

  6. I never heard of Sublime and I was immediately sold on them. Saw Red with Gwen Stefani is great, STP makes you speedrun through the hood. Pool Shark haunts.

  7. Sick Of It All

The clip for Step Down was all over MTV those days. this album introduced me in New York Hardcore. They are still around, stompin' boots and raising hell.

  8. Johnny Cash

I had heard of Mr Cash. This album really got me into him. It marked the beginning of his second career with a series of albums all worth a listen. Produced by the great Rick Rubin.

  9. Therapy?

Tight guitars and drums, strong lyrics and a great live performance.

  10. This album was on heavy rotation in the bars I frequented.

  11. Weezer

Three great songs on this album. Well, the rest is pretty OK too!

  12. A great album that introduced me to this band. Unfortunately after a few years the drama started in and around the band.

  13. I'm not a big fan of Courtney Love, this album is on repeat every now and again, though.

  14. Green Day, Dookie

The album where fans called them sell-outs. But then again, they found a greater audience who might've never heard of them. That would be a shame.

  15. Korn

Debut album by the band that would define the Nu Metal genre.

  16. 2024 will be the last year for NOFX. They will stop as a band. Thank god for all their great songs!

  17. My introduction to the Prodigy. Hard and sonic blasts. I loved it. Still do.

  18. In the wake of the Riot Grrrl movement, L7 was there. Great songs from a band ahead of their time.

  19. The Offspring

1994 was the year punkrock broke into the mainstream. this album had a lot to do with it.

  20. A great liveband. One of the few electronic music artists I can bear.

  21. I learned about Lanegan as frontman of The Screaming Trees. His solowork is more dark and bluesy. Lanegan also collaborated with other great artists you should check out. He is greatly missed since 2022.

  22. Machine Head, Burn My Eyes

Hard. Metal. Yet it grooves and funks.

  23. Infectious Grooves

This band isn't that well-known. Infectious Grooves is a funk metal band led by Suicidal Tendencies frontman Mike Muir. It also featured ex-Suicidal Tendencies, now Metallica, bassist Robert Trujillo, and ex-Jane's Addiction drummer Stephen Perkins. A goofy, funk-metal album.

  24. Pantera is just a punch in your face.
