Apple Top 100

Working my way through the list starting at 60.

Listened to albums 100-61 pre albumwhale, might add them later

  1. Outkast

Took me to the end of "Chonkyfire" to figure out who I was reminded of throughout the album.

    TLC's Left Eye!

  2. Janet Jackson

So much of this record has cool Linn drum sounds, funky bass awesomeness.

Then you get a random annoying stabby brass synth thing.

Sometimes I can roll with it, sometimes I want to throw the synth out the window.

  3. Talking Heads

The Overload is very much an "Exit Music (For A Film)" vibe.

An annoyingly bleak ending to an otherwise fine and dandy album.

  4. Stevie Wonder

Mad that this is a one man band situation.

Just as the synths and electric piano might begin to get overpowering he switches back to acoustic piano and the album gets a new lease of life.

  5. Björk

Hunter feels like I have an ear infection, somehow in a good way.

Lots to digest here, a fun aural smorgasbord.

  6. Bob Marley & The Wailers

    Great stuff.

I had an "off brand" compilation album as a teenager, lots of unpolished live concert tracks.

So I was kind of expecting a poor sounding record here. Absolutely not the case!

  7. Drake

    About an hour too long.

  8. Happy to have this on as background music.
The singles aside, wouldn't go out of my way to revisit the whole album.

  9. When I first played this album, it was at a time when a friend had been introducing me to some trad music.

I remember thinking how cool it was to hear the Irishness on this and to see Liam O'Flynn, Donal Lunny etc in the album sleeve notes.

Some tracks I would have skipped over previously (I didn't get Waking the Witch) are now sounding great.

    No more skipping! 10/10

  10. Love this!
    A really fun listen.

  11. Guns N' Roses

Assumed I would really enjoy this.

Singles are still fantastic, but I found the rest to be mostly filler.

  12. I wouldn’t mind this album if there was a different lead vocalist.

    Nein danke.

  13. John Coltrane

Don't think this will be my gateway into jazz but I can appreciate why it's well loved.

  14. Rihanna

Has some kind of slick languid vibe, in the best sense.

  15. Like the first two tracks but then everything kind of merged into one long song.
    Maybe needs a second listen.

  16. D'Angelo

Initial reaction was “nope”, but I fell in love by the end.

  17. Can't deny there are many catchy tunes here.
Had forgotten about Cast No Shadow.

First time listening to this with fancyish headphones, definitely (maybe) improved the experience.

  18. AM
    Arctic Monkeys

I would give this another spin.

Weirdly was looking at robot vacuum deals when the "I wanna be your vacuum cleaner" lyric showed up.

  19. The Velvet Underground, Nico

I went in with an open mind, previously I have not been a fan of this album.

There has been no change to my opinion. Soz guys.

  20. Fancy 90s production although it doesn’t sound dated.
Sounds great but overall not for me.
