Albums I Love
Some of my favorite albums of all genres; albums that I listened to a lot.
-
Turnover
Shoegaze/dreampop album. One of my favorite albums ever if not my #1. I used to loop it when I was high and just stare at the ceiling.
Favorite Tracks: Cutting My Fingers Off, Dizzy On the Comedown, Take My Head
-
TV Girl
I don't really know how to describe the sound. It's TV Girl, they make dreampop for girls who yearn and male manipulators. This is my favorite album by them.
Favorite Tracks: Taking What's Not Yours, Not Allowed, (Do The) Act Like You Never Met Me
-
Bran Van 3000
Really unique album, like dream pop meets hip-hop. I'm not sure how to sell it because it's a one-of-a-kind album. If you want a good intro start with Drinking in L.A..
Favorite Tracks: Drinking in L.A., Afrodiziak, Old School
-
Slowdive
Similar story to Peripheral Vision; Shoegazey album to veg out to, though it's a bit more dreamy and a lot longer.
Favorite Tracks: Alison, Machine Gun, When The Sun Hits
-
Drop Nineteens
Another shoegaze album, the tracks are pretty hit or miss compared to other albums, but the good tracks are really good.
Favorite Tracks: Delaware, Winona, Kick The Tragedy
-
Panchiko
Shoegaze/alternative. This one was rediscovered by a bunch of music nerds on Spotify who found an old CD with a bunch of demos on it. Great album to cry or unwind to.
Favorite Tracks: D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L, Laputa, Sodium Chloride
-
Orville Peck
My favorite country album. I first listened to this on a trip to visit family in Texas, and it's really nice. It's more Johnny Cash/Elvis than it is modern country, but it's also by a queer artist so it's fairly unique artistically. If you're looking to get into country, this album is a great start.
Favorite Tracks: Lafayette, Kalahari Down, Blush
-
I was surprised to find out Ween made a country album, and even more surprised to find out it's pretty good. Just a fun, lighthearted listen.
Favorite Tracks: I Don't Wanna Leave You on the Farm, Mister Richard Smoker, Help Me Scrape the Mucus off My Brain
-
Da Vinci's Notebook
Pure comedy album, kind of a barbershop quartet with the acapella. I first found this album when I saw a cover of Enormous Penis on YouTube. It's just an overall fun listen.
Favorite Tracks: Me Pants Fall Down, Hot Soup, Enormous Penis
-
Bo Burnham
Another comedy album. I love Bo Burnham as a musical comedy video act, but Words Words Words holds up well as a standalone album without the extra baggage of Burnham's career.
Favorite Tracks: Words Words Words (Studio), Oh Bo (Studio), Art Is Dead
-
Tally Hall
Indie rock through and through. Tally Hall is one of my favorite bands and this is my favorite of their two albums—though Good & Evil is also really good.
Favorite Tracks: Greener, Be Born, Haiku
-
Hot Freaks
Indie pop album. Like half the songs are terrible but the other half are catchy as hell. Puppy Princess isn't technically on this album but it might as well be—they even have the same album cover.
Favorite Tracks: Write Me Letters, Baby Boy, Puppy Princess
-
MF DOOM
My favorite MF Doom album. Doom is one of my favorite rappers, he has a pretty distinct style, rapping over chill lofi-esque beats while incorporating samples from old cartoons.
Favorite Tracks: Beef Rap, Guinnesses, Rapp Snitch Knishes
-
Kanye West
Kanye West's (in my opinion) magnum opus. Almost every beat is sampled, but the lyrics are extremely personal. Also this is a rap album if you somehow don't know who Kanye West is.
Favorite Tracks: I Wonder, Flashing Lights, Big Brother
-
Panic! At The Disco
Panic! At The Disco's second album. This one sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of Panic's discography, but I really enjoy it. It has more of a Beach Boys sound instead of their usual alt rock emo vibe.
Favorite Tracks: That Green Gentleman (Things Have Changed), Northern Downpour, Folkin' Around
-
Weezer
90s alternative. My favorite Weezer album. It's more vocal and less guitar-reliant than their other albums and I really like that.
Favorite Tracks: Across The Sea, The Good Life, I Just Threw Out The Love Of My Dreams
-
Billy Cobb
Fake Weezer album by Billy Cobb. There's a pt. 2 that I'll also list tracks from since the first Zerwee is an EP. Cobb does a good job of imitating Weezer's style while also taking his own artistic liberties.
Favorite Tracks: 1955, Naita Aka Oni, Ludo and Hoggle
-
Will Wood
Weird indie-rock album. This used to be my favorite album of all time, but I got better taste and haven't been listening to it as much lately. It still has a special place in my heart though, and I still put on some of the tracks from time to time.
Favorite Tracks: Suburbia Overture / Greetings from Mary Bell Township! / (Vampire) Culture / Love Me, Normally, I/Me/Myself, Marsha, Thankk You for the Dialectics, but I Need You to Leave.
