Recs for Paul

  1. COIN

This album I think is just a pretty decent pop album and a good introduction to COIN. The other album I have on here I do prefer.

    Personal Highlights:

    • Youuu
    • Babe Ruth
    • Cemetery
  2. HEAVY RECOMMEND TO LISTEN!!

My favorite COIN album and I think it has some vibes that is just really easy to listen to.

    Personal Highlights:

    • I Feel Alive?
    • Sagittarius Superstar
    • Sprite
  3. Lorde

    HEAVY RECOMMEND TO LISTEN!!

This is my 3rd favorite Lorde album and has a lot of satire in its songs. There are a lot of summer vibes in it.

    Personal Highlights:

    • Mood Ring
    • The Path
    • Helen of Troy
    • Big Star
  4. Lorde

    HEAVY RECOMMEND TO LISTEN!!

One of my most listened to albums of all time. This does require really understanding a lot of the past albums to get all the depths from it, but I think that it is worth it. This is my 2nd favorite Lorde album and has done a ton for me emotionally. The lyrics and sounds are vulnerable and raw. This is one of those albums where it can be emotionally draining to listen to if you are in an emotional state.

    Personal Highlights:

    • Shapeshifter
    • Favourite Daughter
    • If She Could See Me Now
    • Current Affairs
    • David
  5. Car Seat Headrest

    HEAVY RECOMMEND TO LISTEN!!

A heavy hitting album. This can be emotionally draining to listen to, but it has a beautiful and empathetic story. It is very personal to me but it may not be for a lot of people. The vibes of the album are rock, grunge, and very raw at times. I love songs that are optimistic and/or happy while sounding sad. Some of the songs are very long and also I am recommending the "remastered" version (Whatever the newest release you see), as there are older versions but they are not as refined. This is one of those albums that I find hard to listen to now that I am in a better emotional state.

    Personal Highlights:

    • My Boy
    • Beach Life-In-Death
    • Nervous Young Inhumans
    • Bodys
    • Twin Fantasy
  6. Car Seat Headrest

This album focuses less on vocals than Twin Fantasy, but brings in a lot more synth. The sounds are almost addictive to me at times and there is a lot of repetition throughout the songs, but that is not a negative for me.

    Personal Highlights:

    • Cant Cool Me Down
    • Deadlines (Hostile)
    • Martin
    • Hymns (Remix)
    • Deadlines (Thoughtful)
    • Life Worth Missing
  7. Phoebe Bridgers

    HEAVY RECOMMEND TO LISTEN!!

Cannot remember if you had listened to Phoebe Bridgers, but this is one of the best albums of all time in my option. It has some folk influence with the sad sounds. This is one of those albums that I find hard to listen to now that I am in a better emotional state.

    Personal Highlights:

    • Smoke Signals
    • Motion Sickness
    • Demi Moore
    • Scott Street
    • Killer
    • Would You Rather
  8. Phoebe Bridgers

    HEAVY RECOMMEND TO LISTEN!!

Similar to the last, if you have listened to this, you know how good it is. More synth in this album and rock influence than folk. I really recommend listening to the Copycat Killer (Another album by Phoebe that just has alternate versions of some of these songs) version of Punisher.

    Personal Highlights:

    • Garden Song
    • Kyoto
    • Punisher (Copycat Killer)
    • Chinese Satellite
    • Moon Song
    • I Know The End
  9. boygenius

    HEAVY RECOMMEND TO LISTEN!!

Sad listen all the way through. It is a good combination of the 3 artists (Phoebe Bridger, Lucy Dacus, and Julien Baker).

    Personal Highlights:

    • Emily Im Sorry
    • Cool About It
    • Not Strong Enough
  10. Passion Pit

An easy listen! A pretty fun time and has some really nice pop sounds and almost feels "weird" at times, in a good way.

    Personal Highlights:

    • Take A Walk
    • Ill Be Alright
    • Carried Away
    • Constant Conversations
    • Cry Like A Ghost
  11. HEAVY RECOMMEND TO LISTEN!!

alt-j creates some of the most beautiful vocals across their albums and this was a fantastic start to their career. I love the focus on culture throughout their music and how it feels like they just love love.

    Personal Highlights:

    • Tessellate
    • Breezeblocks
    • Something Good
    • Dissolve Me
    • Matilda
    • Ms
    • Bloodflood
  12. A continuation of their first album almost, if that makes sense? The vibes are similar but a lot slower. I think they start to lean into even more of the "love" elements and bring in more of the cultural influences.

    Personal Highlights:

    • Nara
    • Every Other Freckle
    • Bloodflood, Pt II
    • Leaving Nara
  13. alt-J

    ONLY A FEW SONGS!!

This album is kind of mixed for me, as I think it has some of alt-J's best works, but a lot of songs just do not hit for me. Definitely listen to the highlights!

    Personal Highlights:

    • 3WW
    • Deadcrush
    • Last Year
  14. alt-J

    HEAVY RECOMMEND TO LISTEN!!

This is the peak of alt-J. I love this album so much and they really master their sound in my opinion. It still has the diversity of sound that I feel alt-J is known for and it still has the poetry in the lyrics. Some of the songs are very difficult to listen to due to subject matter.

    Personal Highlights:

    • U & ME
    • Happier When Youre Gone
    • Get Better
    • Philadelphia
    • Losing My Mind
  15. Vampire Weekend

Another fun pop album that I'd say is just a good listen. It has a lot of iconic songs and is a really good introduction to the fun sounds that Vampire Weekend have.

    Personal Highlights:

    • Oxford Comma
    • Campus
    • Mansard Roof
    • A-Punk
    • M79
  16. Of Monsters and Men

I think one of the most refined albums by Of Monsters and Men. This album is a good album to have some chill vibes with, as it is not entirely sad throughout it.

    Personal Highlights:

    • Sleepwalker
    • Wars
    • Rororo
    • Soothesayer
  17. Of Monsters and Men

    HEAVY RECOMMEND TO LISTEN!!

Another favorite album of all time for me. More like an EP though. This album is very sad and I do not actually like the last song on it (The sad version of This Happiness). Regardless, a short record that really hits and has some of my favorite songs of all time.

    Personal Highlights:

    • Visitor
    • This Happiness
    • Destroyer
  18. Manchester Orchestra

As I have mentioned, I am not religious, but I do enjoy religious music at times. Christian bands that really sound like they love god but not in the gospel sound (What Ive heard a lot of growing up) really appeals to me. I am also a huge fan of the relationship stuff on this.

    Personal Highlights:

    • Keel Timing
    • Bed Head
    • Telepath
    • Obstacle
    • Wayback
  19. Bad Books, Manchester Orchestra, Kevin Devine

A side project for Manchester Orchestra that has a lot of vulnerability to it (I do think that is a large focus of all of their music) and I think this can be a little heavy in themes.

    Personal Highlights:

    • 42
    • It Never Stops
    • No Sides
    • Forest Whitaker
  20. A beautiful album and Caroline Polachek has an amazing voice (She does sing opera). The vibes are amazing in this album and angelic at times. Can't say much about this album as it is just the experience of it that I struggle to put into words.

If you enjoy Welcome To My Island and want a more electronic version, Id listen to the George Daniel and Charli XCX remix of it, highly recommend that.

    Personal Highlights:

    • Welcome To My Island
    • Bunny Is A Rider
    • Sunset
    • Fly To You
    • Smoke
    • Billions
  21. Hippo Campus

One of my favorite albums of all time by one of my favorite groups. It has been an album that I return to so many times in my life and a different song becomes my focus each time. The vibes are mainly just pop, but there is a bit of rock influence at times. Buttercup is one of my most listened to songs of all time and Poems is a song that really lets me disconnect from life at times, in a good way.

    Personal Highlights:

    • Sun Veins
    • Way It Goes
    • Poems
    • Western Kids
    • Buttercup
  22. Hippo Campus

    HEAVY RECOMMEND TO LISTEN!!

Maybe Hippo Campus' best album and it has some amazing sounds within it. Alternative pop sounds with some rock elements as well. It sounds very different compared to Landmark and does not have the upbeat vibes to it like that album. A lot of heavier moments than their other work.

    Personal Highlights:

    • Mistakes
    • Anxious
    • Doubt
    • Bambi
    • Bubbles
    • Golden
  23. LP3
    Hippo Campus

A more experimental album by them, with a lot more focus on banging sounds, if that makes sense. I don't know exactly how to explain it but its an easy listen. There is something about Hippo Campus that just draws me into their music. If you enjoyed these albums, Id definitely recommend listening to their other stuff.

    Personal Highlights:

    • 2 Young 2 Die
    • Semi Pro
    • Scorpio
    • Boys
    • Understand
  24. Imogen Heap

    HEAVY RECOMMEND TO LISTEN!!

This album is such a complete record, if that makes sense. I think the songs flow together at times (Not in a bad way) and the vibes can really carry you away. Not that sad of an album in sound, despite having some sad lyrics. You will also hear a lot of influence on other artists' music.

    Personal Highlights:

    • Headlock
    • Goodnight and Go
    • Loose Ends
    • Hide and Seek
    • Daylight Robbery
    • The Moment I Said It
  25. U
    underscores

    HEAVY RECOMMEND TO LISTEN!!

This album has no skips in my eyes. I think it has a lot of inspirations and they come through pretty clearly. It is upbeat and only dips down in emotions a bit, making it pretty easy to listen to. The production is amazing throughout.

    Personal Highlights:

    • Hollywood Forever
    • The Peace
    • Lovefield
  26. Charli xcx

    ONLY A FEW SONGS!!

This album was made during quarantine and the lyrics constantly remind you. I do think its one of Charli's best works though. She started to lean more electronic here, but she does still have a lot of her older pop sounds, so some of the songs can be skipped (I know that is kind of blasphemous regarding listening to an album) but the highlights I have below I think are listening to, specifically party 4 u.

    Personal Highlights:

    • c2.0
    • party 4 u
    • anthems
  27. Charli xcx

    ONLY A FEW SONGS!!

This album is more than really a Charli album and is almost entirely focus on features, which I don't mind. It is hard for me to recommend any of the feature songs because they all have a different vibe, but be aware that Unlock It is good for half the first song and then Jay Park starts singing. Really the reason I recommend this album is for Track 10, it is a must listen.

    Personal Highlights:

    • Track 10
