spring listens

what i’m currently listening to (and dumping my thoughts on them!)

  1. Joyce Wrice

this list is getting a little long so i’ll finish it off with this album. this has a early 2000s r&b vibe to it that still has a fresh spin to it.

  2. Jessie Ware

the current queen of pop honestly. every song off this album instantly gets me in a good mood.

  3. The S.O.S. Band

very spring coded. It combines ballads, groovy beats, funk, and r&b and results in this masterpiece of an album. Listen to their discography it’s so magical

  4. Brandy

this is brandy at her peak. one of the best r&b albums that came out of the early 2000s. the production is so stunning and also feels timeless.

  5. not something that I’d usually listen to, but it was actually pretty good. The first half of the album (songs 1-11) was by far my favorite section of the album. It shaped the alternative sound into what it is today, and added unique elements that are comical, satirical, annd entertaining.

  6. Beyoncé

this album is LOUD. the vocals have so much power and grit to them. The instrumentals are off the charts. Guitars, saxophones, trumpets, and more are heard throughout the album. People don’t make albums like this anymore.

  7. Mac Ayres

Everything from Mac is a hit. Smooth voice, r&b, and simplistic but engaging instrumentals that are nice to listen to. I highly recommend listening to his entire discography.

  8. such an underrated album. it’s smooth and has a lush feel to it.

  9. Res

Res was so ahead of her time it’s tragic that this album wasn’t given the attention it deserved. the combination of rock and r&b surprisingly worked and was a great listen overall.

  10. Chaka Khan

noticing a theme with my music taste? Chaka delivers powerful vocals and dynamic beats throughout the entire album.

  11. Janet Jackson

listening to this album in its entirety is such a fun experience. Janet was so ahead of her time when she made this album. it’s a beautiful blend of r&b and pop that still feels fresh.

  12. not much to say, it’s sade. who doesn’t like
    her music??

  13. Jenevieve

This album was an enjoyable listen. it’s reminds me of a scene in a coming of age movie where the main character is having a chill late night hangout with friends at their house and getting pizza together

  14. Charlotte Day Wilson

r&b with alternative notes to it. what more can you ask for?

  15. SUMIN, Slom

the instrumentals on this album are so satisfying to listen to. Sumin’s voice is soothing and blends well with the beats. if you’re into k-r&b, give this album a try!

  16. Belanova

I discovered this album recently and it’s such a good listen. it feels like you’re going to an upscale bar lounge in the early 2000s and sipping on an overpriced cocktail.

  17. DESTIN CONRAD

if you’re a jazz lover who also enjoys r&b with subtle hints of alternative sounds, I highly recommend this album.

  18. the first half of this album is 80s perfection. so uplifting and joyful to listen to. I wasn’t in love with the second half but it did grow on me.

  19. imagine you’re a yoga instructor in the mid 2000s with your strawberry banana smoothie and yoga mat in hand you’re about to start your first class of the day. that’s what this album gives off (in the best way).

  20. SZA

such an iconic album nothing else to say

  21. Solange

i love solange’s music so much it’s kinda unhealthy. this album is very weird girl who watched early 2010s YouTube videos coded. it’s expressive, quirky, but full of thoughtful and romantic lyrics.

  22. Kali Uchis

been loving kali uchis since 2017ish and this is arguably one of her best albums. it’s so well rounded and beautifully blends r&b and alternative sounds.

  23. Westside Gunn, Conway the Machine, The Alchemist

Westside Gunn is one of the most interesting and arguably under appreciated rap artists out there. he’s very unique and offers a different approach to rap (which i didn’t like at first, but grown to love).

  24. if you haven’t listen to this album yet, PLEASE DO. Raveena’s vocals are so soothing and nice to listen to when you’re going on walks or studying.

  25. Noname

if you want a feel good alternative rap album with fun beats and great features, this is it. it’s wacky and playful, and has sentiments of a nostalgic day in the summer.

  26. Michael Jackson

disco Micheal is one of his best eras (argue with the wall). the signature 70s groovy beats on this album along with his vocals is the epitome of spring.
