Albums I really like in no particular order!

  1. We ate well with this release back in 2024. When I heard Sophie Trudeau playing the violin part of ā€œBabys In a Thundercloudā€ live - I damn near cried.

The album artwork and the title (or lack of) depicts a powerful message of war and the cost of human lives - it’s both bleak and devastating before you even hit play - but as you listen there are some elements of hope within several songs.

    Favourite Songs:

    Babys In a Thundercloud
    Raindrops Cast In Lead

  2. The first time I listened to ā€œSleepā€, my jaw almost dropped then I felt a surge of energy as the song began to pick up pace. It put me in a similar headspace to Echoes - Pink Floyd and like Echoes, now has a special place in my heart.

Many of GYBE’s tracks are extensive, primarily instrumental with little snippets here and there of interviews, speech etc and have somewhat dystopian undertones to them.

An open-mind and patience is required to really appreciate the beauty of their work but for those who have both, it really is a virtue.

Seeing these guys live was amazing.

    Favourite Songs:

    All Of Them

  3. Sigur Rós

Makes me feel like I’m chilling in a womb or exploring an aquarium. Svefn-g-englar makes me feel a whole range of emotions from comfort to nostalgia to sadness. Yep, that song gives me goosebumps.

    Favourite Songs:

    Svefn-g-englar
    Ny BatterĆ
    Olsen Olsen
    Hjartao Hamast

  4. My gateway into psydub/psychill. <3 Every song blends perfectly together into a whole journey. Definitely, definitely 1000% one to listen to while buzzed, haha!

    Favourite songs:

    Dorset Perception
A New Way To Say Hooray!
My Head Feels Like a Frisbee
Around The World In a Tea Daze

  5. Camel

A little cheesy but in the best kind of way. The synths go crazy. Once you get 7 minutes into Nimrodel, it’s like woah and you want to crank the volume up just to get lost in that guitar solo.

The variation of instruments and how each song keeps your attention makes it a decent example of progressive rock.

Listening to this one buzzed is an experience.

    Favourite songs:

    Nimrodel
    Lady Fantasy

  6. Amigo the Devil

Amigo’s best album. It has most of his bangers on there plus extra bangers. Very good.

    Favourite Songs:

    If I’m Crazy
    Hell and You
    Hungover In Jonestown
    The Liars Club
    The Dreamer
    Stronger Than Dead

  7. Tells a story of a gas station robbery with clever lyrics and a dark sense of humour. Inspired me to write one of my own songs about a formidable western outlaw travelling down to a small town where residents both fear and respect him. Also a great drinking song.

  8. Amigo the Devil

I have a dream of playing Hell And You at the wedding I’ll probably never have. :’) Dahmer Does Hollywood is also another favourite. I like pretty much all of ATD’s music but I think this album features his most iconic songs. Some of these songs are also in ā€œEverything Is Fineā€ But I really vibe with the different artwork for this one.

    Favourite songs:

    Hell and You
    Dahmer Does Hollywood
    The Dreamer
    The Recluse
    The Weight
    Perfect Wife
    One Kind of People

  9. Merzbow

It feels like I’m sat in a dentist chair while a tiny person in my head power washes my brain. I like to listen to this as a palate cleanser between other music and to muffle my intrusive thoughts.

A very soothing test of endurance indeed. The album art is also kind of trippy - wooo, optical illusions!
